“Japanese Automata” is the book introducing the mechanical devices called karakuri which were flourished in Edo period (1603-1867) Japan. The contents of the book are consisted with the introduction to explain the history of karakuri and the whole translation and annotation of the unique book “Karakuri Zui” published in 1796. Karakuri Zui reported the mechanism and the way to making some Japanese clocks and various mechanical toys at the time. Murakami Kazuo (MURAKAMI, Mr. Kazuo) A Kyoto based Japanese journalist and writer who has been researching and writing articles on the development of old mechanical devices in Japan and the West for many years.
