“Japanese Automata” is the book introducing the mechanical devices called karakuri which were flourished in Edo period (1603-1867) Japan. The contents of the book are consisted with the introduction to explain the history of karakuri and the whole translation and annotation of the unique book “Karakuri Zui” published in 1796. Karakuri Zui reported the mechanism and the way to making some Japanese clocks and various mechanical toys at the time.
